“Love recognises no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” – Maya Angelou
I must admit, a big small part of me really wanted to have a wacky theme for my wedding. And I’m talkin’ about a really quirky, nerdy, over-the-top type theme. In the end, we both decided against it – but that didn’t mean I didn’t satisfy my curiosities first!
So, I did a bit of research, and checked out a few of the *ahem* weirder wedding themes for your special day. Whether you’re dreaming of a swashbuckling adventure or a mystical Harry Potter affair, there’s sure to be something which appeals to your edgier side below.
Doctor Who:
The Tardis can count as your something blue, right? If you and your partner are self-confessed “Whovians”, then this could be the perfect theme for you. If you’re willing to put the effort in, a Doctor Who inspired ceremony can result in some serious wedding goals. Consider this: groomsmen in cosplay, Tardis centrepieces, or even throw a few Daleks in there to mix things up a little.
Pirate:
Arrrrrrr! Time to showcase your inner “Jack Sparrow” and show off your land-legs with a beach-themed pirate wedding. If planned correctly (and decorated well!), it can turn out to be a beautiful rustic affair. Although, I’d probably recommend leaving out the wooden leg and eye patches for this occasion.
Festival:
A festival them can really be a cool, laidback way to celebrate your special day, especially if you’ve been big festival-goers in the past. Your reception (and your ceremony!) could even take place in giant Glastonbury-style tipis, decked out with bunting. Live bands can get everyone up and dancing, and you can add that extra special touch with balloons and hay bales!
Game of Thrones:
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking; Game of Thrones? Red Wedding? The show doesn’t exactly have the best luck when it comes to nuptials. But, let’s be honest, we don’t live in Westeros and weddings aren’t usually filled with plots and murder. In fact, it doesn’t have to be disastrous at all; it can be pretty bloody (couldn’t resist) amazing.
Harry Potter:
As a MASSIVE Potterhead, this would have absolutely been the theme I’d have chosen… if my soon-to-be spouse had allowed it (not bitter at all!). Think bouquets made from book pages, or giving out wands and chocolate golden snitches as wedding favours! The possibilities are endless – sort of like the Room of Requirement, in fact…
I love these!! I am trying to figure out a theme for my wedding now. There are so many different choices.
