6 tried and tested ways to handle pre-wedding nerves

So, the big day is looming and after months of planning and dreaming, you’re stressed. It’s the day you’ve been waiting for and talking about for years now – so why are you freaking out? Don’t worry, pre-wedding nerves are completely natural. When you’re facing a life-changing event and you’re set to be surrounded by your friends and family, it’s normal to feel a little antsy. If you’re tearing your hair out, chill for a minute and take a look at my tips on how to handle those pre-wedding nerves.

Get plenty of sleep

If you’re stressed, your body is crying out for sleep. While you might be wide awake at night, you need to try to relax and wind down. Try taking a warm lavender bath and reading a book to take your mind off things. There’s not much that can’t be resolved by a decent night’s sleep. If you’re really struggling, have a glass of red to take the edge off (any excuse!).

Sweat it out

Exercise is the number one stress buster. Lucky for those of us who are the active types, but even if you’re not a fan of working out, try to get out in the open and get your heart racing – honestly it will help. A good workout will help you to produce endorphins, and it’s a great way to burn off that extra adrenaline. Pick your favourite exercise and get going.

Envision the wedding

Many life coaches recommend running through the wedding in your head before the big day to help you prepare. Doing this with your partner and imagining how the day will unfold, from the ceremony through to the wedding breakfast and reception, will help you know what to expect on the day.

Reminisce

A great way to calm your nerves is to lift your mood by reflecting on positive memories. Think back to the day you met your partner, your first date, your engagement – these happy moments will help put a smile on your face. Why not sit with your partner and go through old photos? It’s a fantastic way to bond ahead of the event.

Stay hydrated

You can’t underestimate the importance of staying hydrated and healthy. Make sure you’re drinking at least two litres of water per day, giving you the strength to manage your nerves and emotions. Same goes for food – no skipping meals! Remember, your body is a temple (and a damn fine one at that!).

Talk about it

One of the best ways to manage stress is to get it out in the open. Share your thoughts and worries with a friend or family member, be honest and talk it out. Getting an outside perspective and even a chance to have a laugh about things can help you release tension.

If all else fails, pour yourself a large glass of vino and breathe. You’ve come so far and done an amazing job, so don’t give yourself a hard time! You’ve got this, girl.
